13.2.2010 2-6 pm Chinese New Year Celebration Location: Lasipalatsi square, Mannerheimintie 22-24, Helsinki 1.45 pm. New year´s parade starting from Railwaystation 6.20 p.m. Fireworks over Töölönlahti Free entrance The Chinese New Year festivities, hosted by the cities of Helsinki and Beijing, will be celebrated in Helsinki for the fourth time. The event features a number of performances, including ferocious battle scenes of the Beijing Opera, colourful lion and dragon dances and plenty of activities for children. You can also watch the New Year’s Celebrations from Beijing in a live broadcast. The Chinese market and the immensely popular food market bring along colour, fl avour and life to the hibernating Lasipalatsi Square. The festival is crowned by a massive fi reworks show above Töölönlahti Bay

The lecture will be given by the sinologist Pertti Seppälä. Aside from landscape painting, calligraphy is the most esteemed form of art in China. The multi-phased history of the Chinese writing symbols dates from three millennia ago.
